REQUIREMENTS FOR PUBLICATIONS
IN THE DIGEST OF SCIENTIFIC PAPERS «PAGES OF MILITARY HISTORY OF UKRAINE»
1. General requirements
Scientific articles, reports and communications, publications of documents and monuments, historical references, bibliographic and source reviews, reviews of new publications, reports on scientific events and activities in Ukrainian or English are accepted for publication.
The length of manuscripts can not be more than 1.5 author's pages (1 author's page - 40,000 printed characters (including spaces between words, punctuation marks, numbers, etc.)), references at the end of the text.
The articles submitted to the Editorial Board must meet the requirements and contain the following necessary elements: statement of the problem in general and its connection with important scientific or practical tasks; analysis of recent research and publications that initiate the solution of this problem and on which the author relies; highlighting previously unresolved parts of the general problem to which the article is devoted; formulation of the objectives of the article (statement of the task); presentation of the main research material with full justification of the research.
Each article must contain metadata. They are published in the journal, on the journal's website and stored in information and scientometric databases. Metadata are:
1. УДК/UDC (Universal Decimal Classification) is given as a separate line, on the left before the information about the authors.
2. Information about the author(s) is given to the right above the title of the publication (command - alignment to the right edge of the text) with the first name/initials and surname; a line below - academic degree and academic title; position, place of work (full title); another line below - the settlement (in brackets) where the author lives or works, country name, e-mail. All information is given in the nominative case. The name of the author(s) is bolded and italicised.
3. The title of the publication is given in uppercase (capital) letters in bold in one paragraph (command - centre alignment). If the publication is presented in parts in several issues of the publication, its title may not be changed. In addition, in a footnote to the title of the publication, information about its continuation or ending should be provided ("Continuation (Ending). For the beginning, see ...’ (and the number(s) of the issue(s) of the publication in which the previous parts of this publication were published).
4. The abstract is placed before the text of the publication after its title. The volume is not less than 2000 characters. Mandatory elements of the abstract:
- aim / objectives of the study;
- methodology / methods / scientific approaches;
- main results of the study;
- prospects for further research;
- practical significance of the results, impact on society, politics;
- originality of the research.
5. Key words (from three to eight) should be given on a separate line after the abstract, marked ‘Keywords’ (these two words are bold and italicised).
6. References is a separate component of the publication. This is a list of references and published sources in alphabetical order, written in Latin. In this block, references to Latin-language works are repeated and Cyrillic editions are given in transliterated form. References to archival sources available in the article are not included. References should be given at the end of the publication after the main text, indicating the title in capital (uppercase) letters in bold.
The list of references and sources in the References block should be formatted in accordance with the international standard from the list of international publication styles APA (American Psychological Association (APA) Style), when the year of publication is given in parentheses after the author's name.

For Cyrillic citations, the following should be transliterated: a) names of authors; b) titles of publications; c) titles of articles; option: the author's English version of the title of the article, if available in the publication.
Transliteration is carried out in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 55 of 27 January 2010 «On streamlining the transliteration of the Ukrainian alphabet into Latin».

The titles of periodicals (journals) should be given in accordance with the official Latin spelling and ISSN registration number (you can check it on the journal's website or in online scientific databases such as elibrary.ru, sciencedirect.com, Scientific Periodicals of Ukraine, and many others).
In the References block, at the end of each bibliographic entry, the original language of the publication (in Ukrainian) (in English) (in Russian) should be indicated in brackets.4
Metadata for items 2, 3, 4, 5 should be provided in two languages (Ukrainian and English).
2. Requirements for the formatting of notes and bibliographic references
Various kinds of content notes (comments, clarifications, ‘lyrical digressions’ from the main topic, etc.) should be automatically inserted using links at the bottom of the corresponding page (the ‘Footnotes’ dialogue box with the following parameters: footnotes - at the bottom of the page; format - other - asterisk (*;**;***)).
Place bibliographic references (bibliographic notes) automatically on a page-by-page basis (use the Footnotes dialogue box with the following options: footnotes - at the bottom of the page; number format - 1, 2, 3,...; numbered lists - continue). The footnote mark should be placed before a punctuation mark (colon, semicolon, comma, period), not after it.
A bibliographic reference is a set of bibliographic information about another document/work cited, reviewed, or mentioned in the text that is necessary and sufficient for its general characterisation, identification, and retrieval. Bibliographic references should be drawn up in accordance with the requirements set forth in DSTU GOST 7.1: 2006 ‘Bibliographic reference.
A bibliographic reference should include the following elements
- surname and initials of the author(s);
- the title of the document;
- information related to the title (monograph, notes, collection, etc.);
- information about responsibility - information about persons and organisations that participated in the creation of the described publication (compilers, responsible editors, translators, etc.);
- information about the edition - information about changes and peculiarities of this edition in relation to the previous edition of the same work (for example: 10th edition, revised and supplemented);
- source data (place, publisher, year of publication);
- information about the series (journal number, issue, volume);
- pages referenced or the total number of pages (when referring to the entire document).
Surnames of authors should be italicised. The surname precedes the initials. Put an unbroken space between the initials and between the initials and the surname. Separate blocks of a bibliographic reference should be separated by a dash. There is an automatic bibliographic reference formatter http://vak.in.ua/do.php
All bibliographic references should be given in the original language. When referring to different works by the same author multiple times, use an abbreviated entry (author, first two or three words of the title, ellipsis, dash, page). In references to a multi-volume document, indicate the author, title, volume (issue, book) number, and pages. If the repeated reference follows immediately after the primary reference, its text is replaced by the words ‘Ibid.’, ‘Ibid.’, ‘Ibid.’ (depending on the language of the source being referred to). When referring to another page, the page number is added to the above words. In a repeated reference to a work by one, two, or three authors that does not follow the primary reference, indicate the authors' surnames and initials, the words “op. cit.”, “op. cit.”, “op. cit.”, and the pages.
Bibliographic references included in a complex reference are placed in alphabetical order and separated from each other by semicolons. If the complex reference includes several references to the same author(s), then in the second and subsequent references, his or her surname and initials are replaced by «His» or «Her», «Theirs», respectively.
References to archival materials are given in the national language, depending on the location of the document, according to the system of references generally accepted in a given archive (in a given country) (for example: CIAC of Ukraine, f. 127, op. 3, d. 38, p. 45; RGADA, f. 124, 1624, book 35, l. 65; BO, rkps 161/58; rkps 17070, k. 45 v.). The first reference to an archive contains its full name, followed by an abbreviation in parentheses. In subsequent references, only the abbreviation is given.

The Editorial Board will not consider articles that do not meet the above requirements.
The Editorial Board has the right to edit and shorten the submitted materials. Unpublished articles, as well as electronic media and illustrations, will not be returned to the author.
The author is responsible for the content of the article, the accuracy of facts, quotations, dates, etc.
